Background
UKCMB is proud to have established the now bi-yearly International Conference on Moisture in Buildings which brings together academics, industry and the research community working on any aspect of moisture induced damage on built environment. We provide a platform for knowledge exchange, best practice and networking, all with the aim of understanding and managing mould and moisture, ensuring better, healthier homes and buildings.
UKCMB held the inaugural International Conference on Moisture in Buildings (ICMB21) in June 2021, and the International Conference on Moisture in Buildings 2023 held in London.
The conference topics have included the following:
- Monitoring & modelling of moisture in buildings
- Ventilation, airtightness & moisture in buildings
- Moisture in existing building & retrofit
- Flooding and escape of water
- Materials performance and building decay
- Indoor mould growth
- Moisture in historic/traditional buildings
- Financial, insurance & legal context & consequences of moisture in buildings
- Impact of moisture in buildings on health and wellbeing
- Moisture in buildings education
- Climate induced hazards facilitating moisture enrichment in buildings

International Conference on Moisture in Buildings 2025
This year’s International Conference on Moisture in Buildings is hosted by Universidade do Minho, we are excited to announce the upcoming International Conference on Moisture in Buildings (ICMB25), which will be held from 23rd to 24th October 2025 in the historic city of Guimarães, Portugal.
This event will gather leading researchers, professionals, and industry experts to discuss and explore critical issues related to moisture control, building sustainability, and the effects of moisture on building materials and health. We encourage you to submit an abstract to present your work and contribute to the global conversation on moisture management in buildings.
The deadline for abstract submission has been extended to 20th December. Don’t miss this opportunity to share your work and contribute to shaping the future of moisture management in buildings.
The conference proceedings will be published by Springer, providing a valuable platform for high-quality research. Papers will also be indexed in Scopus, Ei-Compendex, and Web of Science, ensuring wide dissemination and impact.
Please see more details about the submission process
We are honoured to announce Dr. Antonio Maria D’Altri (Università di Bologna) as one of our keynote speakers, with the lecture: Simulation of salt crystallization-induced damage in historic porous building materials: from moisture transport to micromechanics.
New Special Sessions have been approved and now authors have, in addition to the general sessions, the possibility to submit contributions to the following Special Sessions:
1. Impact of Moisture on the Performance and Durability of Thermal Insulation Solutions
2. Moisture in Multi-Layered Building Envelopes: Mechanisms and Modelling
3. Hygrothermal and Lifecycle Performance of Geo and Biobased Materials
4. Hygrothermal Responses of Building Envelope Systems to Climate Change
Details about the conference, submission guidelines, and templates can be found on our website: https://icmb25.pt/.
We look forward to your participation and to welcoming you to Guimarães, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Portugal, for this pivotal event.
