Ian Mawditt is a leading independent Building Performance Specialist whose work bridges research, practice and policy. With more than three decades’ experience in the built environment, he is recognised for his field-based investigations into how buildings perform in terms of energy efficiency, ventilation, indoor air quality and comfort. His findings have directly informed UK regulations and standards, helping to close the gap between design intent and lived experience.

Ian has been closely involved with the UK Centre for Moisture in Buildings (UKCMB) since its launch in 2017, working alongside its founder Neil May to champion evidence-based approaches to moisture risk. Now part of the Centre’s leadership, he is focused on extending its reach and impact across industry and policy.

As a trusted partner to the AECOM-led technical team advising the UK and Welsh Governments, Ian has played a central role in shaping revisions to Parts F and L of the Building Regulations. He has led improvements to ventilation standards for both new build and retrofit since 2008, and authored guidance on fabric performance and airtightness. He continues to drive improvements in moisture risk management, including shaping thinking around the future of Part C – an area widely recognised as needing updated guidance.
