UKCMB ‘s Dr Yasemin Didem Aktas and Dr Peter Rickaby have collaborated with Building Services Research and Information Association (BSRIA) in developing a guide on mould in buildings, BG 90: Mould in Social Housing.
This comprehensive publication brings together building science, public health evidence, and practical expertise to support professionals addressing one of the most persistent challenges in the UK housing sector. Its release is especially timely in the context of Awaab’s Law, which strengthens requirements for social landlords to investigate and act on damp and mould hazards promptly and effectively. Ensuring that responses are evidence‑informed, proportionate, and holistic has never been more essential.
BG 90 is freely available to social housing providers and full‑time students, supporting both the sector and the next generation of professionals to build capacity, improve practice, and work towards healthier homes at scale.
This guide represents a significant collaborative effort, drawing on contributions from specialists across housing, surveying, environmental health, and policy. It aims to equip practitioners with actionable insights as part of the wider mission to improve indoor environments and reduce health inequalities.
BG 90 is also the second publication produced by BSRIA in partnership with UKCMB, following the freely available Topic Guide on “Mould in Buildings”. More information on TG 26 can be found at this page: TG26 Mould in Buildings
