Join us for a free Q&A webinar on Friday 28th March 2025 at 10-11am GMT, where the UKCMB will launch a new animation on moisture management in building materials (see below Breathability animation for reference).
This webinar will be unique compared to our previous sessions. We will present the new UKCMB animation and discuss its content with Dr Valentina Marincioni, Dr Peter Rickaby, Colin King, and Toby Cambray. They will be available to engage in discussions, answer your questions, and debate various aspects of moisture management in building materials.
The new UKCMB animation aims to clarify key terms and concepts. It explains why the term “breathability” can be misleading, suggesting air movement or ventilation. Instead, the focus should be on moisture transport properties. The animation covers important concepts such as vapour permeability, capillary action (the ability of materials to absorb liquid water due to their porous nature), and hygroscopicity (the ability of materials to exchange moisture with the air). Using precise terms like these helps design buildings that effectively manage moisture, ensuring durability, balance, and a healthy environment.
We look forward to discussing these topics with you!
